Man shot homeowner in self defense | Crime
Spokane Valley deputies said a man claims he shot a homeowner in self defense in the Spokane Valley Wednesday morning.
It happened on the 1200 block of North Bannen around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning . Deputies said 41-year-old David Pelican was living inside 37-year-old Justin Chapman's garage while Chapman was separated from his wife. Chapman told deputies he didn't like Pelican living in the garage and kicked the back door into the structure to confront Pelican.
At first, the two stop fighting and Chapman left but Chapman became angry and walked back to the garage a second time. That's when Pelican said he was in fear for his life and chose to shoot Chapman in the legs. One round struck Chapman in his left knee and fractured his knee cap.
Deputies said Chapman was transported to a local hospital and is stable condition. There have been no charges filed against Pelican.
