What to do in downtown Spokane for New Year's Eve

Late to the game planning on what to do for New Year's Eve? No worries! Below is an incomplete list of downtown destinations that are offering something special for ringing in 2013.

The Flying Spiders will be playing at the Blue Spark (15 S. Howard). There will be a $5 door charge, but Annette assured me on the phone that “we're just going to have a good party,” and that there will be drink and beer specials all night.

Fast Eddie's All Purpose Pub (1 West Spokane Falls Blvd.) won't charge cover all night, and will be having New Year's Eve giveaways – I'm told a bike and a shot-ski are up for grabs. Pitchers of Shock Top will be $10 (normally $14), and apple raspberry Svedka shots are only $4.

The Wave Island Sports Grill & Sushi Bar (525 W. 1st) will have a DJ for those inclined to bring in the new year dancing, a karaoke contest – with a cash prize - for the singers, and no cover until 10 p.m. The bar will serve a midnight sake and cherry bomb drop.

If you're looking for a classier affair, the Spokane Symphony will be Puttin' on the Ritz in the Grand Pennington Ballroom in the Davenport Hotel (10 S. Post) from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Attending costs $50 per person for this black-tie formal event. For tickets call (509) 624-1200.

Daycare Revolution – a 70s and 80s cover band – will be playing in the Peacock Room Lounge (10 S. Post), a 21 and up only event where there will be no cover. All of the night's attendees will be invited for a champagne toast in the hotel lobby.

If you are looking to stay downtown, reserving a room in the Davenport Tower comes with two buttons for First Night Spokane. Also, all guests have access to a complimentary car service that will take you anywhere within two miles of the hotel, so you can avoid the snowy trek down the sidewalk.

Bistango Martini Lounge (108 N. Post) posted on Facebook that a memorable evening will be had with “award winning cocktails … and of course midnight champagne cheer on” the house.

Zola (22 W. Main) will be having $3 and $4 bartender shot specials with their speakeasy party theme. There will be a $5 cover charge. Costumes are encouraged. Dan Conrad and the Urban Achievers will be on stage.

For $99 a couple, Nectar Tasting Room (120 N. Stevens) is offering appetizers from 6 to 8 p.m., a buffet dinner at 8, a bottle of wine, Karrie O'Neill music and a sparkling wine toast at midnight.

Remember that Spokane has several taxi services that will be running all night so there is no excuse for drinking and driving.
