University groups raise $18,241 during food drive
This year’s community food drive organized by Eastern Washington University was reported as successful. University groups competed to collect the most money and food to benefit local food banks and children.
They increased their donations from last year dramatically, bringing in a total of $18,241 and about three tons of food. About $8,200 will benefit Cheney Food Bank and $5,184 will provide backpacks for kids through the program, Communities in Schools of Spokane.
In the past five years, the food drive has raised a total of $57,083 and more than 14 tons of food.
