The fair chose this year’s theme to be “There’s No Place Like the Fair” in honor of the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz movie.

Artist Lisa Rasmussen, known for her cartoon animals, constructed the fair’s logo to represent this theme. In the logo, the yellow slide represents the yellow brick road, the green in the background and the poppies in the front represent emerald city, and the red boots on the cartoon animals represent Dorothy’s red slippers.

The Spokane Clock Tower and Pavilion and the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center’s Silo and Welcome Sign are all represented in the Emerald City. Artist, Michael Bagley later added the text to the logo finishing off the theme with “There’s No Place Like the Fair.”
