The land that the Spokane restaurant Anthony’s sits on top of is now for sale. Spokane city council voted unanimously Monday evening to approve a request for proposal to sell the land at 520 North Lincoln at a competitive price.

The city has owned the land for 15 years when it was picked up for street project that never came to fruition. Since it’s no longer considered for public use, it’s been declared surplus. The city owns about five properties like this they consider significant and will be planning to sell in the future.

City officials say several parties have been interested in purchasing it including the owners of the seafood restaurant.

Councilman Mike Allen hopes the city keeps public access to that peninsula where the property is located by building a partnership with whatever business goes in there.

The land will be set at a minimum price based on the appraisal of the land. The city would not disclose the appraised price, but the property is estimated to be worth more than $50,000. During the last sale in March of 1997, the land sold for $2,775,000. According to the city’s resolution, all revenues made will be deposited into their “Property Acquisition Fund”.

Following public notice and hearings, the city hopes to close on a buyer at the end of September. City council approved the resolution 6-0 with one council member absent. Councilwoman Nancy McLaughlin was absent from Monday’s meeting.
